DIRECT SPEECH
is saying what someone said without any changes. Here, we use quotation marks to indicate what the person said and also use the exact word of the person
INDIRECT SPEECH
in indirect speech we do not use quotation marks instead we use the conjunction "that" and state the sentence by changing its tense. In indirect speech delivered by changing the format to make it more clear, natural, and efficient for the listener.
Direct speech covered by quotation marks (""). in addition, attribution (asked, says, said, yelled, shouted, replied, ordered) often accompany direct speech.
EXAMPLES
DIRECT : "the exhibition finished last week" explained Parjo
INDIRECT : Parjo explained that the exhibition had finished the preceding week
DIRECT : Tukul said "today's lesson is on presentations."
INDIRECT : "today's lesson is on presentations" Tukul said
DIRECT : "Where is the post office?" asked Saskia Gotic

CHANGING DIRECT SPEECH INTO INDIRECT SPEECH

DIRECT : "I like playing footbal" jono said ( i like to play football)
INDIRECT : jono said he liked playing football (jono said he likes to play football)
Quotation marks omitted, pronoun I changed to he (the third), and the verb like changed to past tense liked assuming Jono no longer like to play football or the messenger just focus on past conversations
But if the verb can be fixed like the messenger believe the statement is still valid, for example because it is delivered as soon as the messenger hear those words

Direct : "have you finish your homework?" he asked (have you finish your homework)
Imdirect : He wanted to know whether i had finish my homework. (He wanted to know whether i had finish my homework)
Wherher / if added to deliver the news in the form of yes-no question having been heard before.
Imperative
